The player’s rating as Die Roten takes a big step towards the title

Goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Joshua Kimmich gave Bayern Munich a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, when Die Roten extended their lead at the Bundesliga summit to ten points.

Hansi Flick’s side started bright and took only seven minutes to break the deadlock. Thomas Muller’s effort was saved by Lukas Hradecky but the ball fell to Choupo-Moting, who reacted quickly to take a touch and volley home from close range. The Bavarian giants then made two in the 13th minute, when a half-cleared cross fell to the edge of Leverkusen’s area so that Kimmich could hammer in the bottom corner.

It’s a superstart from @FCBayernEN. ❤️

Bayern continued to see danger ahead and thought they had found a third in 66 minutes. Choupo-Moting blocked Benjamin Pavard’s sweeping pass over the top and rolled the ball coolly under Hradecky, only for the Bayern striker to be denied as VAR controlled him as an offside in the build-up.

But Flick’s men looked to win 2-0 to take advantage of RB Leipzig’s shock 2-1 loss to Cologne and move a seemingly insurmountable ten points clear with just four games left, making a ninth Meisterschale in a row inevitable.

Now let’s see how Die Roten rated …

Manuel Neuer did well to keep Pool / Getty Images clean

Manuel Neuer (GK) – 6/10 – Sharp when the ball came his way and made four stops to keep a clean sheet.

Benjamin Pavard (RB) – 6/10 – Unusual did not see much of the ball in the offensive sense and could not affect as much as he would have liked. Was strong in his defense and made two ball recoveries.

Jerome Boateng (CB) – 7/10 – Sometimes struggling with the pace of Leon Bailey but stood on his ground and played some excellent balls from the depths, and often started attack phases himself with 93% accuracy.

Lucas Hernandez (CB) – 6/10 – Felt very confident and composed in his defensive work and placed well to clear from the Leverkusen cross and won three air challenges.

Alphonso Davies (LB) – 5/10 – Quick to track and deny Leverkusen’s right side on several occasions but did not have the same impact on the forefoot, was sloppy, dull and strangely tentative with his crossing and dribbling.

Joshua Kimmich (CM) – 8/10 – Moved well and found space to dictate, distributed the ball and made his side cross all the time. Came on the points report this time and finished brilliantly for Bayern’s others.

David Alaba (CM) – 8/10 – Covered a lot of ground, made a couple of important ball recoveries but was most influential in the attack. Looked creative and threatening when he was in possession, stepped up on the pitch and put in both crosses that led to Bayern’s goal.

Thomas Muller (AM) – 7/10 – Wandered around well, fought hard and was dangerous on the ball, and often connected well with colleagues to make his side flow freely upwards. Unlucky not to score with his effort back to Choupo-Moting,

Kingsley Coman (RW) – 5/10 – Had some good moments and looked to be able to create something, but was most wasteful on the ball and could not penetrate Leverkusen’s back line.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (ST) – 8/10 – To prove to be a very satisfactory survey for Robert Lewandowski. Hard working, good connecting game, light with his movement and finished clinically to 1-0.

Jamal Musiala (LW) – 7/10 – Really bright once again. Made some lovely details on the ball and seems to slip past defenders at will. Has a big impact on this Bayern side and registers two more key passes and seven ball recoveries this time.

So good to see you back on the pitch, @leongoretzka_?

Leon Goretzka (CM) – 6/10 – Picked out good positions around the area but obviously lacked match condition as he wildly swung to a couple of decent goal chances.

Tanguy Nianzou (CB) – 6/10 – Kept a characteristically solid Bayern backline and saw a rare league clean sheet.

Leroy Sane (RW) – 5/10 – Made a couple of searching balls to his strike partner but was generally sloppy and wasted a gilded chance from about eight yards.

Bouna Sarr (RB) – Not applicableChristopher Scott (LW) – N / A
