Spores dissatisfied with Romero’s progress

Tottenham are believed to be unhappy with Atalanta’s handling of talks for Cristian Romero, with an agreement between the two clubs not yet met.

23-year-old Romero has been on Spurs’ radar for a while, and the Premier League team recently had an opening bid of just over 42 million pounds rejected by Atalanta – the Italians wanted about 5 million pounds more.

Talks have continued between the two clubs, but Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on his Twitter account last Friday that there was still no agreement – adding that Tottenham are growing dissatisfied with the situation.

The story becomes even more frustrating for Spurs given that their goals are keen to complete the switch to the Premier League itself. It was recently revealed with 90 minutes that Romero told his current employers that he wanted to move to Tottenham.

“This is a great move and a great opportunity, and personal terms have already been agreed,” a source told 90min. “Romero wants to move to Tottenham and has said so much to Atalanta. He does not want them to stand in his way.”

Spurs are following Romero in an attempt to freshen up their back line. The club is reportedly happy to move away from Davinson Sanchez this summer, while 32-year-old Toby Alderweireld has already said goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after making a move to Qatari side Al-Duhail.

The Belgian joined Spurs in 2015 and made 236 appearances for the club before going to the Qatar Stars League for a fee that is rumored to be around 13 million pounds.

To be clear. Tottenham and Atalanta had new contacts today but they have still not reached an agreement for Cristian Romero. Atalanta have not accepted Spurs’ offer yet, Tottenham are not happy with the situation. TH️ #THFC

New head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has contingency plans in place if a deal for Romero is not implemented, although he is undeniably the club’s first choice. Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu is one such target, while Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma are also options.
