Ryan Mason was appointed interim manager

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has confirmed that Ryan Mason will take charge of the club for the rest of the season following Jose Mourinho’s departure.

The Portuguese tactician was released from his duties after an unfortunate run of results that leaves Spurs European ambitions for next season via their league hanging by a thread.

Spurs are currently in seventh place in the Premier League – five points from the top four who have played a game more than a number of pages above them – with just six games left of the season.

The club’s only second road to a place in the Champions League next season was recently blocked after they were knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb after taking a 2-0 lead from the first leg.

The news of Mourinho’s departure from the club seemed to get lost in the fierce reaction to the formation of the Super League – a competition that Spurs have signaled that they intend to participate in.

But with probably the biggest match of their season on the horizon when they face Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday, Daniel Levy has confirmed that Mason has been given the reins before the clash and will take responsibility until the end of the season.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, Levy outlined his desire for the team to focus on their upcoming matches and said they have all the tools needed to end the season strong.

“We have great faith in this group of talented players,” he said. “We have a cup final and six Premier League matches ahead of us and we will now focus all our energy on achieving a strong end to the season.”

Mason will be joined by Chris Powell and Nigel Gibbs as interim head coaches, while Michel Vorm will take on the role of temporary goalkeeper coach.

Ledley King has remained at the club after Mourinho’s resignation and he will continue in his role as first team assistant.
