Raphael Varane says goodbye to Real Madrid
Usually when you leave a job, you send a quick email around the office after receiving a can of celebration and cards signed by a bunch of people you haven’t spoken to in three years.
But most ‘regular’ jobs do not see you leaving three Spanish titles and four Champions League crowns – so we will forgive Raphael Varane for being so juicy on us.
The Frenchman was recently announced as Manchester United’s latest recruit and then drew the curtain on a brilliant decade at Real Madrid.
Varane was not really offered the farewell ceremony that his partner in crime Sergio Ramos was recently, but it has done little to dampen his affection for Real and he has now thanked everyone at the club for their help and support over the past ten years.
“The last few days have been filled with many emotions, emotions that I now want to share with you all,” he wrote on his official Instagram page. “After ten incredible and wonderful years at Real Madrid, a club that I will always have in my heart, the day has come to say goodbye.
“Since I came in 2011, together we have exceeded all expectations and achieved things I could never have dreamed of. I want to thank all the coaches and all the people who work or have worked in the club for everything they have done for me.
“Many thanks also to all the Madridists who always gave me a lot of affection and with their great demand they pressured me to give my best and fight for every success. I have had the honor of sharing a locker room with the best players in the world.

“Countless victories that I will never forget, especially La Decima. I realize that it has been a great privilege to experience such special moments. Finally, I would like to thank all the Spaniards and especially to the city of Madrid, where my two children were born.
“This country will always be special to me. It has been an incredible journey in every way. I leave with the feeling of having given everything and I will not change a single thing in our history. A new chapter begins.”
We do not cry – you cry.
