Paratici secure new Son contract
New Tottenham director Fabio Paratici has agreed a new long-term contract with star Son Heung-min.
The South Korean captain enjoyed his best goal season in the Premier League last semester and struck out 17 strikes when Spurs finished seventh.
There had been concern in the Tottenham camp that Son might stay when he signs a new contract, with Spurs returning as a force in England’s top flight in recent years. Teams like Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are well-known admirers.
However, the latest reports have been encouraging, and the contract is expected to be announced soon and 90 minutes understand that Paratici is determined to get the deal done.
Since Paratici was officially appointed in June, he has been head of Tottenham’s leading search, which finally ended when Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed manager. Serie A regulars Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso had previously been contacted.
Paratici also targets incoming transfers, with central defense an area to be addressed. 90min understands that Santo has asked Spurs to run a deal for Wolves and England center-back Conor Coady, while talks have also been held with Southampton Jannik Vestergaard and Japan’s international Takehiro Tomiyasu.
During the contract negotiations, Son recommended compatriot Kim Min-jae, a player that Tottenham have previously shown interest in.
The two parties could not agree on terms last year, but central hill in Beijing Guoan Kim has since attracted fans from Porto and Juventus, the later team Paratici spent 11 years with.
Spurs are looking for at least one new central defender this summer, with Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld all battling during the 2020/21 season. The Belgian international Alderweireld has already asked to leave north London after spending six years with Lilywhites.
Question marks remain over Harry Kane’s future at the club. The striker is currently in international service as England prepare for the European Championship 2020 final against Italy and told Spurs about their desire to leave earlier this summer.
