MSF discontinues operations

Médecins Sans Frontières has made the painful and difficult decision to suspend activities in certain places in the Tigray region, in Ethiopia, and calls on all authorities and all parties involved in the conflict to carry out in-depth investigations with one to establish the light, facts, circumstances and responsibilities, around this unfortunate event. We talk about difficult decisions, because we have always seen many needs on the ground. Therefore, Médecins Sans Frontières has decided to continue its activities in certain parts of the Tigray region. However, the answer is still very trivial. We call on the authorities and all parties involved to protect civilian and humanitarian workers and facilitate their work in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Rolland Kaya, Director-General for Médecins Sans Frontières in East Africa, based in Nairobi

Médecins Sans Frontières also assures us that “humanitarian workers have been targeted directly at the Tigray, hospitals and ambulances looted, destroyed or used for military purposes.”
