Northeastern State Official Claims Somali Leader Facilitates German Deportations of Somali Nationals
Garowe (AX) — The drama unfolded Wednesday when Northeastern State’s Minister of Information, Eng. Mohamud Aydid Dirir, threw shade at Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Dirir flat-out accused the President of giving the nod to deportation actions against Somali asylum seeker peeps in Germany. Yep, you heard it right!
Not only that, Dirir is also fuming over what he claims to be the President’s involvement in booting low-income families out of their humble abodes in Mogadishu. Why? To hand over the land to private developers, or so it’s said.
This all cropped up after a pow-wow in Berlin. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Mohamud put their heads together, talking about the rapid-fire return of Somali folks hanging in Germany without a hall pass. Scholz put his two cents in, emphasizing, “Deportations will almost exclusively impact those sporting long rap sheets. It’s a win for the vast Somali community in Germany, who are thriving and fitting in nicely.”
So far, President Mohamud hasn’t clapped back at Dirir’s finger-pointing. However, his office did wave the flag of camaraderie toward Germany, spotlighting the call for stronger diplomatic bonds, which includes hashing out those thorny migration and security issues in the mix.
Meanwhile, it’s a social media tug of war. Some Somalis are wigging out, blasting the government for their alleged lack of grip on the country’s security, with a chorus of voices harping on the nonstop political ruckus and gnarly terror attacks, blocking the path for any chill repatriation vibes.
Germany currently plays host to roughly 65,000 Somali compatriots. Scholz chips in that only a “minuscule fraction” might face the deportation bus, setting off another ripple of jitters and chatter among the community and beyond. Pretty intense, huh?
