Man Utd, Real Madrid and PSG to once again take an interest in Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all monitoring the situation of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, whose future could once again be in the air if the Italian side does not reach the Champions League.

Milinkovic-Savic has been a regular in the gossip column every summer and has had another solid year for Lazio and has so far scored seven goals and nine assists in 26 games, but despite his good form, Lazio is facing an uphill climb to qualify for the Champions League.

Biancocelesti are currently sixth in the Serie A table, six points behind Atalanta in fourth, but they have a game in hand on the sides above them.

Champions League qualifiers are clearly still a possibility, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, it could be crucial to convince Milinkovic-Savic to stay at the club.

As the story goes, the long-term admirers United, Real and PSG are all sniffing and are keen to offer the 26-year-old the European football at the highest level he is looking for.

That’s all this report says, so there’s not much to digest. These three teams have all been researching Milinkovic-Savic for a while and would probably be interested if he hit the market. This is how the transfer world works.

It’s not as if Lazio will feel any pressure either. Milinkovic-Savic will remain under contract until 2024, so they do not have to sell at any time soon, but it is clear that Champions League football is in the midfielder’s thoughts.

“I have a long contract, I do not think about the future, I only finish in the top four with Lazio,” he said after sitting a late winner against Verona on Sunday.

Milinkovic-Savic’s future has always been linked to Paul Pogbas, whose server has often been billed as a potential alternative. United are always said to want him if they lose the Frenchman, while any of his other suitors (including Juventus) were only concerned about missing the United man’s signature.

It is interesting that the transfer factory has challenged this reputation at a time when Pogba’s future is up in the air again. The 28-year-old will soon enter the last year of his contract and has been strongly linked to a move, although a new rise in form has given hope for the idea of a renewal.
