Phillips has come in shape as of late and formed a solid partnership with Ozan Kabak in the middle of Liverpool’s defense.
Speaking to UEFA (via Liverpool’s official website), Phillips acknowledged La Rica’s rich history but said he would not be intimidated by them.
“It simply came to our notice then [an iconic club] and it shows in what they have achieved as a club, the trophies they have won and the level they have maintained for years and the players who have represented them as well, says Phillips.
“Obviously you will face top players and better players, but in my opinion you have to treat every game as if you will face the best opposition you have ever faced so that you are at your best game, and it will not be different in that game. ”
After making his Champions League debut in the final round against RB Leipzig, Phillips spoke openly about his feelings that night.
“Sitting in the locker room afterwards and [it was] just a big sigh of relief and a big smile on his face, knowing that it went as you wanted it to go, “he added.
“Before the game, I knew there was a chance I would be picked to start in that game, but at the same time I did not want to solve it too much and get my hopes if something changed.
“Then when we did the line-up and it looked like I was starting, I could feel the excitement that I was going to make my Champions League debut.”
“It was a pleasant surprise for myself and it is obviously a huge compliment that those who voted thought I deserved it.
“It’s really nice to feel that kind of love and I really appreciate it” ❤️

At the full-time whistle, the midfielder was pulled aside by officials and his celebration after the match was delayed.
“Shortly after the game, I had doping,” Phillips revealed. “So I wanted to go into the locker room and enjoy the moment, but I had to go into a little closet with a doctor!
“I think it’s the fastest I’ve ever gone in and out of doping in my life because sometimes you can wait a while, but I just wanted to get it done as soon as possible, get into the locker room with the boys and enjoy the moment. . ”
