The former Bolton defender went into the Red’s backline in his emergency last season and helped the club secure Champions League qualifiers in the absence of first-division champions Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
The aforementioned duo were both ruled out for most of last season by injury, but with both working back to full fitness and the summer addition of Ibrahima Konate already confirmed, Phillips is aware that his playing time will likely be limited and could look like a move. away.

“The plan at the moment is to go back to Liverpool for the pre-season and just go from there, really,” he said.
“Every player wants to play games, and at the stage I’m at, I have to play games for my development. I think if you look from my first game last season to my last, there was development and I felt much more confident and comfortable. I want to keep that development.
“When it comes to Liverpool, they obviously play a huge amount of games every year. Playing time is never guaranteed for anyone, but it depends on whether there are enough opportunities in these games for me, I guess. ”
