Liverpool’s fan group shouts FSG over the Super League
Liverpool’s supporter group Spion Kop 1906 has issued a powerful open letter to the club’s owners, demanding fan representation at board level to avoid a repeat of Super League shambles that they say have hurt the club’s reputation.

The FSG group has led success to Anfield since the acquisition of the club in 2010, but some of their off-field actions have left a sour taste in the mouths of fans. Their attempt to get involved in the short-lived European Super League was the turning point for many, and an apology from owner John Henry has done nothing to calm the anger directed at the board.
The outrage stems from the club’s working class background. Bill Shankly, a man who was synonymous with Liverpool’s rise to the top, saw football as a sport for the people, and his grandson wanted his statue removed outside Anfield after the Super League plans were announced.
It is a message that has been repeated by current manager Jurgen Klopp, who expressed his own concern about the Super League during the 48 hours that it seemed to go on.
Now the influential fan group Spion Kop 1906 has called out the owners and demanded that the board start listening to the fans so that there are no more mistakes.

“John Henry, Tom Werner, Billy Hogan and other representatives of FSG,” read the open letter.
“As fans, we are appalled by the events of recent days. Due to your ignorance, lack of consultation and lack of understanding, you once again have shame and embarrassment over our football club.
“Over the last decade, monumental mistakes have been made by the club’s hierarchy, due to poorly judged decisions either without communication with the fans, or by disregarding the concerns of the supporters.”

It continues: “In recent days, the complete concept you have shown to managers, players, staff and supporters is really shameful.
“That’s enough, the countless mistakes, the countless excuses, the countless backtracking, damage the reputation of our club and our city. We do not want more hollow or condescending excuses, we want change. We want action, not words.
“We urge you to come around the table with groups of fans, we urge you to listen, and we urge you to represent the fans on the board to prevent further mistakes that bring shame and embarrassment to Liverpool FC’s general reputation.”
