Liverpool fans are aiming for the Real Madrid team bus near Anfield

There is a lot to be said for creating a scary atmosphere before a big game.

Not only is it a chance to get upset and excited for the match, it can also complicate the opposition and possibly give your side the advantage – something that has never been shown to actually work, but, yes, we do it anyway.

A set of fans who have become synonymous with such screens before a big event are Liverpool fans. Do you remember the mass gatherings outside Anfield before COVID?

However, it seems that fans of the Reds have decided not to participate on the ground will not prevent them from rattling against their opposition, and so some idiots have decided to damage the Real Madrid team bus when it went to Anfield for the second round of their Champions League quarter-finals.

Seriously, what’s the point? Breaking the bus window before a game because you think it helps your team win? Do you even know what football is? Do you even know how the sport works?

In a short video uploaded to ESPN’s official Twitter account, you can see a man scraping away the shards of tinted glass from the outside of the window caused by anything thrown into the bus.

Liverpool have released a statement condemning the incident: “We unequivocally condemn the actions that led to the injury of Real Madrid’s team bus on arrival at Anfield tonight.

“It is unacceptable and shameful behavior on the part of a few individuals. We apologize to our visitors for any distress caused. We will work with Merseyside Police to establish the facts and identify those responsible.”

It is not the first time in recent years that Liverpool fans have taken their “atmosphere” before the game a little too far.

In 2018, before a Champions League clash with Man City, Reds fans threw objects at Cityzen’s team bus and smashed windows during the process. The club was then fined by UEFA for the inconvenience.
