Leicester transfer news: Ryan Bertrand agreed

Ryan Bertrand has put paper on paper in a contract with Leicester City after his contract with Southampton expired.

The left-back revealed that he would leave the Saints earlier this summer after seven years with the South Coast club.

Bertrand played over 200 Premier League games for Southampton, who originally agreed on loan from Chelsea in July 2014 before moving to St. Petersburg. Mary’s permanent the following year.

The 31-year-old arrived within 90 minutes of helping the Saints to his first domestic cup triumph of the century in the 2017 EFL Cup final, although Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late strike ensured a dramatic 3-2 victory for Manchester United in the final stages.

After saying goodbye to the south coast club, 90min can now reveal that Bertrand has signed a contract in Leicester that will make him connect with Brendan Rodgers again after the couple worked together at Chelsea.

Bertrand joins the Foxes on a free transfer after rejecting progress from a number of clubs in favor of a move to King Power Stadium.

Leicester was not the only Premier League outfit that expressed interest in Bertrand, while he also had offers from Germany, Spain and Italy.

Rodgers already has a number of left-back options, with Luke Thomas, James Justin and Timothy Castagne all able to play on the left side of the defense, but the recent nasty injury that occurred at Euro 2020 while representing Belgium has seen the Leicester boss anxious to further strengthen their options.

Atalanta’s Robin Gosens was also overseen by the foxes, but they have decided on the former Southampton man and an official announcement from the club can be expected sometime in the near future.

Rodgers has wasted no time at all to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, with Patson Daka and Boubakary Soumare already at the door.
