Italy has shown that they know how to suffer together
EURO2020.com columnist Gianluca Zambrotta says Italy can draw strength from the way they win against Austria.
Italy had to work hard for their victory against Austria. I think it is useful that this came right now in the tournament and not against a more technically talented team. However, the Azzurri showed that they know how to suffer together and how to sacrifice.
They did not play as well as in previous games but the group showed how united and strong it is. Right now, the most important thing is to be solid, win games and continue the development.
Italy enters the match against Belgium after some spectacular performances in the group stage. They broke several records, including a new 31-game undefeated run, but now they face the world’s No. 1 ranked side. Belgium is a team with excellent players, but Italy can really compete. The semifinals are within their reach.
Federico Chiesa, who did very well with Juventus last season, not only scored goals but also gave dynamism and movement in the game when he came on against Austria. I think he’s a player who can make a difference in games when he comes in. But he can also have an impact from the start if he prefers Domenico Berardi, who has had a great tournament so far. Chiesa can be crucial.
Romelu Lukaku is one of the leaders on this Belgian side, he competes to be among the top scorers in the tournament. He is two goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has now been eliminated.
The experience of Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini (I hope he will be available) would be helpful in stopping him. Lukaku is very strong; he protects the ball better than anyone else; he helps the team postpone; he pulls in defenders.

Chiellini’s condition could be crucial, although Francesco Acerbi performed admirably for him.
Italy must play with its usual style; Azzurri must be focused and determined from the first minute. They have to give everything they have. They have to play as a team as they did in the group stage, but also against Austria when they risked and sacrificed a little more. Italy can move forward by using the strength of its entire group.
