England’s best started eleven

Gareth Southgate’s side has had a strong final international break before the euro, beating both San Marino and Albania.

Some of the group’s highlights this time included the recalls of Jesse Lingard, John Stones and Luke Shaw, as well as Aston Villas Ollie Watkins’ first call.

There are still more than a few players in shape waiting for their first international appearance this break.

Here’s the 90 minute start XI of the best unlimited English stars at senior level.

Sam Johnstone (GK) The West Bromwich Albion stopper may have conceded 55 goals in the Premier League this season, but he has been one of the few bright sparks during what has been a difficult season for the Baggies.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) A 23-year-old player in Manchester United’s first team has not yet left his mark on the international stage. This is largely due to the fact that the right-back position is one of the most competitive with Reece James, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold and more also fighting for the role.

Ezri Konsa (CB) The Aston Villa defender has started in 89% of the club’s Premier League matches this season and given that they have conceded fewer goals than Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United and Leicester, Tyrone Ming’s partner is really worth considering.

Ben Godfrey (CB) 23-year-old Godfrey has established himself as a regular guest in midfield this season for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and sees a very exciting perspective for the future.

James Justin (LB) – Justin was signed by Leicester City from Luton in the summer of 2019 and can play both as a left and right back. The foxes fly high in third position and are unhappy, as is Wan-Bissaka when it comes to the fact that England are well stocked on the hill.

Tom Davies (CM) – A very important squad player for an Everton team that under Carlo Ancelotti hopes to end up in the top six this season. His perseverance and work ethic are the key to letting the more technically talented players come forward and make a difference in the final third.

Curtis Jones (CM) – When he was only 20 years old, Jones played more first team football for Liverpool than he might have expected at the beginning of the campaign. For the most part, he has done well and that experience at the highest level will prove invaluable as he continues to develop as one of the country’s best young attacking midfielders.

Eberechi Eze (AM) The former QPR man is enjoying his first season in the Premier League and his technical brilliance is clear for all to see. He has made six direct goal contributions in the top flight so far this season and has all the prerequisites for a future senior England international.

Jarrod Bowen (RW) The 24-year-old has played a major role in what has been a very successful season for West Ham United so far. He has appeared 28 times in the Premier League this season, scoring on five occasions and contributing three assists.

Emile Smith Rowe (LW) – Since the arrival of Martin Odegaard to Arsenal, Smith Rowe has proven to be very competent when he operates from a broad position. Technically, he is a boss’ dream and his eye for a defensive pass is his hallmark.

Patrick Bamford (ST) – The Leeds man has had spells in the Premier League before that were really not as successful. But under Marcelo Bielsa he is a completely different animal. Bamford have scored 13 goals and provided six assists so far this season – an impressive return by anyone’s standard.
