Dean Henderson reveals that he feared that his Man Utd career was over after a mistake against Liverpool

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has admitted that he feared that his career at Old Trafford was over after his mistake against tough rivals Liverpool, while he was on loan at Sheffield United last season.

The 24-year-old enjoyed the second year of his loan spell at Bramall Lane, during which he was thoroughly impressed, when he released a Georginio Wijnaldum volley that hugs under his body and in the net behind him. The 70th minute goal proved to be the winner for Liverpool on the day.

Although he never played for Manchester United at the time, Henderson has said he was worried that his Red Devils career might have been over before it even began.

According to The Mirror, the goalkeeper told the YouTube channel UMM: “After the Liverpool game last season when I let out a howl through my legs, I somehow thought that ‘my Manchester United career is gone now because it’s against Liverpool. ”

“But then there’s a new game around the corner and you always get the chance to come back and I think I got three clean sheets and three Player of the Match awards after that.”

The English national team player now seems to be the first choice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United. He has started each of their last three Premier League matches and has kept clean sheets in all and helped his side advance to the Europa League quarter-finals after helping to see a 1-0 victory away at AC Milan in the round of the 16th round.

The 24-year-old has revealed that his path to the top was far from easy.

“From the journey I’ve been on for the past five or six years, no one has left me anything,” Henderson revealed.

“I knew if I was going to do it, I would have to do it the hard way. I had a goalkeeper then. [De Gea] which was probably the best in the world so I knew I was sitting in Manchester United, I could not physically break through because I would only be seen as the young boy. So I had to lend and I had to perform and do well. It was about having the resilience to bounce back all the time. “

Henderson kept 35 clean sheets in 86 Blades games, and since returning to Old Trafford, his 12 clean sheets in 19 games (conceding just 13 goals) have seen him establish himself as a key member of the squad.
