Copa America 2021 semifinal

Argentina can go one step closer to winning their first Copa America trophy since 1993 when they face Colombia in the semifinals on Wednesday.

An emphatic victory over Ecuador in the quarterfinals has helped Argentina build momentum, and there is real optimism that La Albiceleste can return to the final after falling by this obstacle in 2019.

This is how Lionel Scaloni can set up his page.

Emiliano Martinez (GK) – The obvious first choice, Martinez has three clean sheets from his four appearances so far.

Gonzalo Montiel (RB) – One of the best slopes in South America, Montiel was rested last time in favor of Nahuel Molina, so expect the River Plate man to return.

German Pezzella (CB) – With Cristian Romero facing a race against time to prove his fitness, Scaloni can play it safe and choose Pezzella again.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB) – Otamendi is an almost permanent member of Scaloni’s team. If he is in shape, he will always start.

Marcos Acuna (LB) – Acuna has taken control of the left-back position from Nicolas Tagliafico and does not seem to give up his place for this one.

Leandro Paredes (DM) – Argentina looked slightly better against Ecuador with Guido Rodríguez, but Scaloni’s love for Paredes means that the PSG man will probably keep his place.

Rodrigo de Paul (CM) – De Paul started joining Atletico Madrid after the tournament and played against Ecuador and hopes to use that momentum in this one.

Giovani Lo Celso (CM) – Lo Celso impressed on both sides of the ball against Ecuador, put in a real shift defensively and proved he can be trusted.

Lionel Messi (RW) – Messi has four goals and four assists to his name already this summer. He is in outrageous shape and looks desperate to add silverware with his country to his trophy cabinet.

Lautaro Martinez (ST) – The Inter forward builds momentum at the right time and ends up in each of their last two matches after pulling empty in the first two.

Papu Gomez (LW) – Nico Gonzalez was able to take a rest and it is the perfect excuse to get Gomez back in the team.
