Chelsea release 2021/22

Chelsea have released their new away kit for the upcoming 2021/22 season, giving back the yellow color that has been featured in some of the club’s most famous away strips from previous years.

The yellow jerseys, first introduced in the 1960s, have been a regular part of Chelsea’s history and have reappeared regularly in recent years. During the Roman Abramovich era, we have seen the Blues become the yellow ones in 2008, 2013, 2014 and as late as 2018.

Coincidentally, the recent yellow seasons have all yielded big silver, including Premier League and Europa League titles, and Chelsea are clearly hoping to channel that success by getting the famous look back for the 2021/22 season.

The new sweater has a simple design, with the base yellow shade only covered by a subtle needle-striped design that only increases the feeling of the whole thing.

The accents, including the Chelsea logo and the emblems of both Nike and Three, stand out in a bold black, as do the hidden accents on the collar and the ‘Pride of London’ motto printed inside the shirt.

To complete the look, players will wear black shorts and yellow socks, with the two colors chosen as a reflection of both the club’s history and the youthful energy currently buzzing around Stamford Bridge.

“As you look through the years, you always remember the yellow stakes on our heroes that made an impact,” said Mason Mount (via the club’s official website). “As a player, I feel we can do the same and create even more special moments in this new kit!”

As part of Nike’s Move to Zero campaign, this shirt is made from 100% recycled polyester fabric made with discarded plastic bottles.

Chelsea can make their debut on Sunday when they start the Mind Series pre-season tournament against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

If they choose to wait, next time fans will be able to see the away kit in action on August 22, when they meet Arsenal again in Premier League action.

The new Chelsea away kit is available in the Chelsea online store and Nike.com now before it launches in stores on August 5!
