Adama Traore gets the last gas spinner

Adama Traore made a dramatic winner in the indemnity for kicking Nuno Espirito Santos’ side to a 1-0 victory over Fulham, which meant that they did not hope to beat the Premier League relegation.

The lively Spaniard had gone 16 months without a Premier League goal, but settled the game in west London under dramatic conditions when he angled a powerful drive past Alphonse Areola in the Fulham goal.

The Wolves may feel that it was no less than they deserved after a ridiculously close VAR call previously ruled out a first goal for the club for Willian Jose.

Wing Daniel Podence was considered to have been offside before crossing the ball into the box for Jose to nod home, but it is difficult to say for sure that anything other than armpit hair was beyond the last Fulham defender.

The game as a whole was relatively poor, with both sides lacking any real quality or penetration in the final third. To make matters worse for the visitors, the flamboyant winger Pedro Neto was injured during the first half – his club undoubtedly jumped that he does not suffer from a serious problem.

But the headlines come to Traore, who after going an astonishing 49 Premier League games without a goal, worked his way into space before firing an angled run. Victory lifts wolves over Crystal Palace in the Premier League table, although their position as 12th is still a big disappointment for many given the pre-season expectations.

As for Fulham, Scott Parker’s side must now dust themselves off and refocus, knowing that time will run out in their fight to avoid relegation. The Cottagers now track Newcastle by three points, having played two games more than Steve Bruce’s off color Magpies.

They will also be wary of West Bromwich Albion, who have renewed hopes of beating the relegation after dismantling 10-man Chelsea 5-2 at Stamford Bridge last time. The Baggies will host Southampton on Monday night, while Newcastle travel to Turf Moor to face Sean Dyche’s tough Burnley.
