A Premier League move looks likely

It is becoming more and more likely that Denmark and Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard will become Premier League players next season.

The 21-year-old has been hailed as a bright perspective since his senior debut for North Zealand at the age of 17, and after a solid debut season in Serie A with Sampdoria last campaign, it was his childstorming performance in the European Championship 2020 this summer that has pushed him into the spotlight.

With increased interest in the 21-year-old after Denmark’s fantastic show at the European Championships, Calciomercato (via hitc.com) reports that Damsgaard looks to be a Premier League player sooner rather than later.

In addition to interest from several Italian clubs, the winger has been linked with Crystal Palace, West Ham, Southampton, Leeds, Leicester and Tottenham in England. Spurs football manager Fabio Paratici is reportedly very keen to bring the Dane to the club, having been an admirer of the youngster throughout his time in Serie A.

And with his talismanic role in filling the gap after Christian Eriksen’s absence at Euro 2020, he has been seen as the player who replaces his compatriots at Tottenham – which the club has struggled to replace since resigning in January 2020.

Damsgaard has previously said that he wants to take a cautious approach to future moves, which indicates that he is worried about leaving Sampdoria – where he has flourished – too soon. But with his agent in talks with many Premier League clubs, the 21-year-old seems more likely than ever to secure a big move away.

However, he will not be cheap for any suitors. In addition to a good domestic season, Sampdoria’s president Massimo Ferrero claimed that his players’ value had increased due to his performances in Euro 2020.

“At least 30 million pounds. If he scores again he will reach 40 million pounds,” Ferrero said after the 21-year-old’s group stage matches.

Even if Denmark eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat in the semi-finals of Euro 2020, after Damsgaard’s sublimely striking free kick to put their side 1-0 against England at Wembley, Sampdoria will undoubtedly make sure to get back at least 40 million pounds for their husband.
