“We need to mobilize as soon as possible

A delegation from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) ended a five-day visit to Chad last night, Wednesday 16 June. The delegation was led by former Mauritania Foreign Minister Ahmedou Ould Abdallah, former UN Special Representative for West Africa. He makes an initial assessment of this visit.

For the delegation, it was about contacting the Transitional Military Council (CMT) in power since the sudden disappearance of Idriss Déby, as well as with the political and social actors and international partners present. Ahmedou Ould Abdallah insisted on the need for transparency.

We have an opportunity to draw attention to two points that seem necessary to me: to open up to political parties as they have done, but also to open up to businessmen, to civil society, that is, to youth and workers, and to try to do this transition to success. However, funding for this dialogue must be mobilized as soon as possible. We need to find the funding and the Secretary-General has some ideas about that. She will reveal them when we are in Paris next week. In any case, I have the impression that most of the interlocutors understood. They are, of course, in a difficult context, but our advocacy is above all a call for expertise and also to say the availability to go beyond traditional patterns to see how to support the future. .
