the man who tried to assassinate the president

In Mali, the man accused of killing Colonel Assimi Goïta, the president of the transition, died at the Grand Mosque in Bamako on Tuesday, in custody on Sunday, July 25, the Malian government said in a statement.

as reported from Bamako, Serge Daniel

It all started at noon this Sunday. A Malian security source informs reporters that the health of the attacker of the transition president has deteriorated. He’s in the hospital. In the afternoon, Malia’s Prime Minister Choguel Maïga will meet with the interim president, Colonel Assimi Goïta. Did they break the subject? Probably.

Moments later, Colonel Goita’s attacker announces the death. What death? The official statement does not say so, but says an autopsy was immediately ordered to determine the cause of his death.

For the government, this death does not stand in the way continuation of the investigation, in particular “that the first clues collected indicate that it was not an isolated act”. It is clear that for the Malian authorities there are other people involved in the assassination attempt on the head of state.

But in the absence of the main alleged culprit, now dead, some may be tempted to doubt the official dissertation. To convince everyone, the government and then the judiciary should undertake to play the card for transparency.
