opening of a forum for reconciliation between communities in Niono

This Thursday, November 5, 2020 in the morning, opens a forum on reconciliation between communities in Niono in central Mali.

At the initiative of the government, many community actors, but also representatives of the Malian state, will work for four days to try to find a solution to the problems that have plagued the area for several weeks.

The Farabougou case

In particular, the Farabougou case, a village surrounded for a month by jihadist fighters amid conflict between traditional Dozo hunters and the Fulani community, will be discussed.

But Farabougou is not the only file on the table. For several months and again in recent days have several locations in Niono circle sometimes experiencing deadly tensions between communities. The circle has also recently been the target of terrorist attacks, claimed by the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, linked to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqmi).

And the “displaced”

“I also want to talk about the displaced,” indicates a mayor who will attend the work, recalling that thousands of people have fled their homes to escape the clashes or for fear of retaliation. The security forces – army, police, gendarmerie – are also invited to the discussions, which will be held until Sunday.
