Guinea declares the official end of

Guinea this time very quickly overcame the Ebola virus disease that reappeared in the southern part of the country in February last year. National health authorities quickly implemented the response with the support of the WHO and its partners and built on the expertise gathered in the fight against Ebola in the country between 2013 and 2016.

With our special correspondent in N’Zérékoré, Mouctar Bah

“I am pleased to declare, on behalf of the Prime Minister, the end of the recurrence of the Ebola virus epidemic in Guinea.” The honor was bestowed on the Minister of Health, Medical Secretary-General Rémy Lamah, to announce the end of the Ebola virus disease in Guinea to loud applause.

But it is not without difficulties, as N’Zérékoré’s head, Saa Leno, confirms to us. “It was the difficulties with the citizens, the people, especially the areas that were affected, there was often reluctance, but it was necessary to go through the awareness, we must therefore contribute to the local authorities and even the moral authorities so that the people understand, let everyone knows that they must take part in this struggle ”.

Above all, we must not disarm, we must go very far and very fast to avoid another onset of the disease.

Alfred Ki-Zerbo is the WHO representative in Guinea. “No, it is over today, and therefore the consolidation phase begins and does not call for disarmament efforts, on the contrary, calls on us to maintain a health watchdog in Guinea, but also in connection with neighboring countries through cross-border cooperation.”

Guinea has received about 24,000 doses of the vaccine and more than 10,000 people have been vaccinated, including frontline health workers.
