It is first and foremost a journey to mark ECOWAS ‘solidarity with Mali. The country finds its place in the subregional institution, several weeks after being suspended, and also after having been embargo.
There is now a transitional president and a civilian prime minister. A vice president is certainly military, but whose powers are reduced to issues of defense and security, and Mali also has a government. Without forgetting that the civilian and military personalities arrested since the coup have been released.
But Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo is also coming to talk about the rest of the transition. In 18 months, the relay will be handed over to civilians. But first we need credible choices. It is therefore necessary to create a chronogram and, above all, to respect it.
Other topics are on the table: dissolution of the junta. This will take place after the establishment of the Transitional National Council, a body to play the role of Parliament. The Ghanaian president will discuss all these issues with Malian President Bah N’daw, but also with Prime Minister Moctar Ouane, which is increasingly the focal point.
