call for calm after an accident in Kaolack

In the aftermath of the accident that killed four people in Kaolack, in central Senegal, transport workers from Mali and Senegal are mobilizing to restore calm to the population and drivers.

In Senegal, the national secretary of the Union des routiers condemns the retaliation from the Senegalese people against the Malian drivers after the Kaolack accident. Gora Khouma, together with Abdoulaye Diallo Iallo, from the Fulfulde editorial staff of RFI:

“What happened in Kaolack is really unfortunate. I condemn him. Let’s be careful. Avoid attacking the malians. What does it mean? This means that the situation is getting worse. Since it is Senegalese who are here, there are Senegalese who are in Mali. Let’s do everything we can to stay united. In any case, as Secretary of State, I still urge Senegalese to remain calm. ”

For its part, the Malian Drivers’ Union is committed to raising awareness among its drivers and is asking Senegalese trade unions to do the same. His spokesperson, Souleymane Koumare, was joined by Sory Ibrahima from the Mendenkan editorial staff of RFI:

“I would like to say to the Malian drivers who are here, together with the entire Malian population, not to destroy Senegalese or other trucks. I also ask the Senegalese trade unions to try to increase their talks with ministers or others, in order to find a solution to appease right now. The accident is the accident. We can not say that a truck has had an accident and that we must therefore destroy all trucks. ”

The Malian and Senegalese authorities have undertaken to shed light on these incidents.
