The Kpodzro dynamics, which support Agbéyome Kodjo, calls for a demonstration on Saturday in Lomé, Togo’s capital, to challenge the outcome of the February presidential election water by Faure Gnassingbé. But the authorities are not of the same opinion, the mobilization was banned on Tuesday, the organizers were told.
“We have just received a letter from the authorities stating that this event will not be accepted,” Brigitte Kafui Adjamagbo-Johnson, coordinator of RFI, told RFI The dynamic.
However, there is no question of giving up the challenge. According to her, “these authorities are misleading themselves when they think they can stifle the protest. The Togolese are more than ever determined to put a stop to this regime and they will find a way to do it,” said Brigitte Kafui Adjamagbo-Johnson.
The slogan remains the same: reject the re-election of Faure Gnassingbé, in office since 2005 at the head of the country. “We still want the wishes of the Togolese people, expressed in the ballot box on 22 February 2020, to be respected. For us, the Togolese adopted the change at Togo’s head that day. They have shown their willingness to break with a regime that is more than fifty years old and there is no question of not listening to them, the coordinator concludes.
In the election in February last year, Faure Gnassingbé won with 70.78% of the vote. Gabriel Agbéyomé Kodjo came in second with 19.46%, and former opposition leader Jean-Pierre Fabre received 4.68% of the vote.
