A high-level dialogue on the theme “Feeding Africa, leadership to scale up successful innovations”. takes place over two days and ends today, at the initiative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (Fida).
The idea of organizing this forum, which is held by video conference, arose from an observation: 246 million Africans suffer from food insecurity and this number continues to increase. In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the shortcomings of food systems in Africa. A continent that strives to benefit from agriculture and the agricultural industry for its growth, according to Fida’s president.
We need to address the issue of productivity and this issue arises at the level of family farming; on the other hand, food imports in Africa are more than $ 46 billion a year and two thirds are concentrated in ten products of great necessity […] So all this can be turned into an opportunity, there is a strong potential for job creation and contribution to the creation of prosperity not only for the countryside but for the whole of Africa.
