Banadir Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab formally opened the 2025-2026 school year examinations in the capital, marking the start of a major academic milestone for thousands of pupils across the region.

Officials said 46,225 students are taking the exams at 125 centers across Banadir’s districts. The students include 24,717 boys and 21,508 girls.

To keep the process orderly and secure, regional education authorities said they had put in place measures aimed at safeguarding the examination system and ensuring the tests run without disruption.

Officials said medical teams, emergency vehicles and fire brigades were deployed to examination centers to respond to any emergencies.

Abdirahman Ali Mohamed, director general of the Banadir Regional Education Directorate, said special arrangements had also been made for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to the exams.

Muungaab offered his best wishes to the candidates and said the regional administration would continue its practice of encouraging and rewarding top-performing students, as it has in past years.

For the first time, Sudanese students studying in Mogadishu are also taking part in the exams. Authorities said their inclusion reflects the capital’s role in supporting education and social services for refugees and asylum seekers.
