FC Pyramids already in the big leagues

Three years ago, FC Pyramids wanted to shake the hierarchy beyond the Egyptian championship, that is, at the continental football level. Against the Moroccans from the sporting renaissance Berkane in the Confederation Cup final on Sunday 25 October in Rabat, the bet could already be a success.

At the Prince Moulay Abdallah complex in Rabat, Pyramids FC hope to make a dream come true on Sunday 25 October: to beat the Moroccans from the sporting renaissance Berkane to their first Confederation Cup final. The culmination of a campaign that was significantly extended with a suspension due to coronavirus that began in August 2019 when newcomers to continental football had eliminated the Etoile du Congo Brazzaville.

Fifteen months later, the pyramids proved too strong Horoya from Guinea in a semifinal in a single match in Casablanca that won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Ibrahim Hassan and El Said.

“The final will be tough when we meet a good team, but we will do our best to carry out our mission and raise the trophy. My teammates and I dreamed of winning the Confederation Cup in the very first game against Star, and the determination to succeed grew over time, “said the former Egyptian international El Said.

Berkane Sports Renaissance defeated Hassania Agadir 2-1 in a Moroccan semi-final thanks to two penalties converted by Captain Mohamed. Berkane hopes to emulate FAR Rabat, FUS Rabat, Moghreb Fes and Raja Casablanca and become the fifth Moroccan club to win the African equivalent of the Europa League. During the previous edition, Berkane was looking for a first title at the continental level beaten in the final by another Egyptian club, Zamalek.

FC Pyramids, owned by Emirati businessman Salem Al Shamsi, has reached the highest level after just two years of existence. The club, founded in 2008 under the name Al Assiouty Sport, was bought in 2018 by the wealthy Saudi Turki Al-Sheikh, now the owner of the Spanish club Almeria. Turkey Al-Sheikh split from FC Pyramids just after CAN 2019 in Egypt.

The Egyptian team, which is currently playing in the Egyptian Premier League since its rise in 2017, has become very ambitious by recruiting Brazilian players and Egyptian internationals. Turkey Al Sheikh had even offered a luxury spokesman in the person of Ahmed Hassan, four times winner of CAN with Egypt. “We want to compete with the big clubs to win titles and we will do everything to achieve that,” Hassan told Egyptian channel Sada El Balad.

Less than three years later, FC Pyramids, coached by Ante Cacic, former national coach of the Croatian team, could offer themselves a first continental title and rise to the heights of Al Ahly and Zamalek.
