U.S. Special Operations Leader Conducts Frontline Visit in Somalia

U.S. Special Operations Commander Visits Frontlines in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The United States continues to affirm its commitment to Somalia in the battle against Al-Shabaab. This extremist group has plagued the region for nearly twenty years, subjecting innocent civilians and military personnel to relentless attacks.

For the past two decades, the U.S. Africa Command has diligently collaborated with the Somali National Army (SNA), facilitating operations that have successfully reclaimed numerous critical areas from Al-Shabaab’s grasp.

Colonel David Haskell, the Special Operations Commander of the U.S. Army, recently declared that America’s resolve remains unshaken in combating Al-Shabaab. He pointed out how the group’s dominance is decreasing, attributing this change to effective teamwork between local forces and international allies.

“U.S. officials have voiced robust support for the ongoing operations, reiterating their determination to assist Somali troops in eliminating terrorist factions,” reported state media.

A high-level delegation, which included Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuddin, the Commander of the Somali National Army, and Colonel Haskell himself, conducted a visit to the Middle Shabelle region.

“This visit underscores the international collaboration aimed at fostering security and stability in Somalia,” the leaders remarked, urging local security forces to maintain unity.

The delegation engaged in vital discussions with local military leaders, concentrating on strategies to uproot Khawarij militants from their strongholds. Major General Muhuddin highlighted the necessity of readiness and effective partnerships with local communities in the struggle against terrorism, according to reports.

The United States Army plays a crucial role in training the elite Danab commandos, who are indispensable in the fight against Al-Shabaab. Despite the group’s dominance over vast rural areas in central and southern Somalia, the SNA has liberated several key territories.
