the new Secretary General of the CAF and

Véron Mosengo-Omba, Director of the FIFA Members’ Association Division, replaces Moroccan Abdelmounaïm Bah as Head of Administration (Secretary-General) of the African Football Confederation (CAF). Patrice Motsepe, the new president of the CAF, has also elected his five vice-presidents: Senegalese Augustin Senghor (1st), Mauretanian Ahmed Yahya (2nd), Djiboutian Suleïman Waberi (3rd), Cameroonian Seydou Mbombo Njoya (4th) and the Comorian Kanizat Ibrahim (5th)

From our special correspondent in Rabat,

The day after his election to the presidency of the African Football Confederation (CAF), Patrice Motsepe led its first board of directors. A meeting at which the South African officially appointed his five vice presidents. Unsurprisingly and in line with the compromise signed in Rabat at the end of February, Augustin Senghor became 1st Vice President and Ahmed Yahya the 2nd. The Senegalese and Mauritanians agreed to withdraw from the CAF presidency race . Djiboutian Suleïman Waberi becomes 3rd Vice President.

Crushing posts from Cameroon and the Comoros

The surprise came rather from 4th and 5th position. Finally, it was the Cameroonian Seydou Mbombo Njoya and the Comorian Kanizat Ibrahim who achieved the last two positions.

Mbombo Njoya signs in passing one of the most resounding “remorades” in CAF’s history. A few days ago, he was not eligible for a position on the board. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport narrowly validated his candidacy. The person then won roughly 45 votes against 7 against Chadian Adoum Djibrine. “I take this opportunity to thank President Motsepe for choosing my country, because it is first and foremost my country that counts and not my person,” he responded. I intend to make my contribution to this great challenge that awaits us: to rectify this CAF house, which is a driving boat ”.

Kanizat Ibrahim, she could not believe it. The former head of the Comorian Federation’s Normalization Committee was still unfamiliar with the football world a few years ago. “I do not know yet, she was pleased with Olivier Pron’s microphone. It’s new, but it’s also a pleasure because we’re seeing a change in the way CAF is governed, and that’s very important. We place more emphasis on women, and that is enormous ”.

Former FIFA “Monsieur Africa” CAF Secretary General

But the surprise of the day is rather the arrival of Véron Mosengo-Omba as head of administration (general secretary) of the CAF instead of the temporary Abdelmounaïm Bah. This Swiss-Congolese lawyer was the director of the member association branch of the International Football Association (FIFA). He was also FIFA’s “Africa-Caribbean Mister”. It is therefore a skilled connoisseur of arcana in continental football who leaves Zurich for Cairo. He worked in the European Confederation (UEFA) with Gianni Infantino, of whom he is a close collaborator, before joining the latter for FIFA.
