Somalia:Dozens killed in landmine explosion Bal’ad

Reports from Bal’ad town in Middle Shabelle region say {that a} bus traveling from Mogadishu to Jowhar town was hit by a landmine near Gololey village in Bal’ad district.

“We have confirmed that 10 people died and four others were wounded after a minibus traveling along the road between Mogadishu and Balcad ran over a landmine,” said Abdikarim Mohamed, a government official from the south-central Hirshabelle region.

The accident took place about 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of Mogadishu, in what Mohamed called a “horrible and evil act”.

“The terrorists are indiscriminately targeting everybody. They planted the mine that had killed those innocent civilians who we were going about their businesses traveling,” he told state media.

Residents are carrying out various rescue operations.

“Four people on the bus escaped with injuries and were rushed to Jowhar. The death toll is still unknown but it is more than 10,” said a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
