Malawi managed to beat (1-0) Uganda, who were at a qualifying spot, to win, instead of Cranes, the second Group B ticket to Cameroon.
It comes a long way from this Malawi team that won its third qualifier for CAN by beating Uganda who still had the advantages of the forecasts, after Burkina Faso, in this group B. The Cranes can only blame themselves for having failed at home by just make a score of six possible during the last two days of qualifying in March. Meanwhile, the Flames, who were three points behind Uganda, beat the mark by also defeating South Sudan (1-0) in the 5th match.
Richard Mbula is the hero of the meetings by scoring the only goal in this “final” in Group B. The striker from Baroka (South African Premier League) opened the scoring in the 15th minute by cutting with a header near the post a cross. from right back Stanley Sanudi.
The cranes have never been able to pick up the points and have even been exposed several times to the Malawians who will face a good Dennis Oyango.
