controversy following a presidential ceremony in

President Uhuru Kenyatta has inaugurated five hospitals in the capital Nairobi. Facilities that will be open 24 hours a day, but the ceremonies were held overnight while the country applies curfews to limit the spread of Covid-19. When Kenyans saw the pictures, they reacted strongly, especially on social networks.

The KOTs have struck again. Kenyans on Twitter could not help but comment unpleasantly on pictures of Uhuru Kenyatta who cut ties and visited new hospitals at night, as residents are expected to stay home from 10am. “Why is he breaking schedules? He has to respect his directives,” an Internet user replied. “He should be arrested tomorrow and taken to court,” another commented.

Seeing the controversy swell, even the head of state was forced to react. “We did it at night for two reasons. First and foremost, we wanted to be sure of respecting the protocols. It would have been impossible to do this during the day due to the number present. Then we found out that hospitals in Nairobi open at 8 am and close at 6 pm. But if someone gets sick later, the only available hospital was Kenyatta National Hospital. ”

Greedy for social media and very connected, Kenyans are known to be very responsive commentators on Twitter, where they often use humor, sarcasm and irony. Like this Internet user who wrote that Uhuru Kenyatta “should now lift the curfew, because he in turn sees the importance of working at night”.

“24-hour operation of these pharmacies is the only way to remove hospitals in Nairobi County,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta as he ordered new health facilities in Nairobi, including Mukuru kwa Reuben Level 3, Gatina & Gichagi Pharmacies. @NMS_Kenya pic.twitter.com/0nX77ODTVc
