For the provincial commissioner of Haut Katanga, crime in Lubumbashi is halved compared to last year. For example, cases of armed robbery have increased from 499 to 205 this year; only 97 cases of rape are recorded compared to 169 last year.

Civil society in Haut-Katangaelle does not agree. Its report from August last year shows that since the beginning of the year, more than 2,700 cases of armed robbery have been reported for the city of Lubumbashi alone and over 400 cases of rape and 96 murders.
