The UN is anxious about assaults on

Denise Brown, UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the Central African Republic, warns of the rise of attacks on humanitarian workers in the Central African Republic.

The warning was launched by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the Central African Republic. Between October and February, 234 cases of attacks on humanitarian workers were reported and two dead and eight injured. This is an increase of 79% compared to the same period last year.

During a press conference on Saturday, April 3, in Bangui, Denise Brown particularly insisted on the attack on a humanitarian convoy last week in Bakouma. This town in the southeastern part of the Central African Republic is in the hands of rebels from the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC).

“I want to express my total frustration and anger when the humanitarian community has been harassed, threatened by the Bakouma group. They threatened our staff, they traumatized our staff. Our vehicles, our tools have been stolen. Eight vehicles. We were lucky, no one was injured.

I remind you that every cent we receive we must ask our financiers. It’s not like money’s falling from the sky. So when they put us in trouble, they put their own populations in trouble. When they see a family, a woman, a child by the roadside who needs help and the humanitarian team is not there because they threatened us, it is their responsibility ”.
