National consultations for dialogue

In the Central African Republic, national consultations begin on Monday morning to prepare for the major Republican dialogue announced by President Faustin-Archange Touadéra in March last year. The president was re-elected after controversial elections, which had been disrupted by a coalition of armed groups, the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC), since December. The start of this dialogue had long been requested by opposition political parties, as well as by the international community. What does the Central African President’s project look like?

President Faustin Archange Touadéra will receive the first participants in the consultations on Monday morning. The 23 members of the Bangui delegation open the ball in the Palais de la Renaissance today.

From Tuesday onwards, it is the turn of civil society: trade unions, associations and non-governmental organizations will follow each other until Wednesday. Then come the religious denominations. Protestants, Catholics and Muslims will present their complaints to the president next Friday.

Finally, after a day dedicated to prefectures and traditional leaders from across the country, political parties or gatherings such as COD 2020 will conclude consultations on Tuesday, April 27.

The government has ruled out any dialogue with representatives of armed groups or any political party that has shown any support for the Coalition of Patriots for Change, CPC. On the other hand, the technical support team indicates that the alternates affected by a parliamentary immunity procedure will be able to participate in consultations.

When the consultations were compiled, the head of state promised that this would serve as a basis for the implementation of the national peace and reconciliation agreement signed more than two years ago.
