More solidarity to fight terrorism, demand African heads of state

The Congolese capital hosted an international conference on Tuesday 27 October to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Brazzaville Manifesto, the act by which General Charles de Gaulle designated this city the capital of free France during World War II. At least four African heads of state who participated took the opportunity to call for more solidarity to fight terrorism shaking the continent.

as reported from Brazzaville, Loïcia Martial

The first leader to speak, the president of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi, lamented the arbitrary terrorism that is rampant in the eastern part of his country, which will not be able to defeat it alone. “This daily struggle requires our commitment, our solidarity and the concerted efforts to eradicate this scourge of our century,” Mr Tshisekedi said.

In the Greater Sahel, African countries, according to Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno, need more support to defeat terrorists. “It is therefore urgent to emphasize a combination of effort and resources. between our states and France by integrating the variables associated with our comparative advantages, ”he said.

Solidarity must be at the heart of the fight against terrorism or poverty, begged the Congolese head of state Denis Sassou Nguesso. “Today we see the emergence of other challenges, for which solidarity between states is the only breeding ground that is likely to nurture the real responses to be delivered,” he said.

Today, terrorism spares no sub-region on the continent, these leaders said.
