Koléla’s camp is appealing

Rally for Democracy and Development (RDD), an allied party fighting for the late opponent Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas, appealed to the Constitutional Court on Monday, March 29, to cancel the March 21 presidential election, the preliminary results of which were won by President Denis Sassou. Nguesso who has collected 36 years in the country’s head.

“Our appeal has been approved by the court. Now we are waiting for what the judges will decide in the coming days, says Jean-Jacques Serge Yhombi Opango, leader of RDD who submitted the appeal in his personal capacity.

An appeal based on Article 70

He thinks the election should be canceled because his partner, the late candidate Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas, did not take part in the process until the end. The leader of the RDD relies in particular on Article 70 of the Constitution.

“We trust the aspect of Article 70, which simply states that if one of the candidates dies before the first round or is definitively prevented, the Constitutional Court states the postponement of the election. Which was the case because we saw that the candidate Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas could not come to the closing meeting [du 19 mars, à deux jours du vote, NDLR]. He was therefore prevented. He returned to the clinic at 2 pm and his death followed, he argued.

But for him, there is another reason to ask for the annulment of the election, in addition to the mentioned article, the conditions of his organization. For Jean-Jacques Serge Yhombi Opango, the vote was held.

In front of him is the candidate Mathias Dzon also appealed, while the youngest candidate Dave Mafoula, 38, noted the preliminary results.
