Joseph Kabila’s FCC does not close the door to dialogue but sets boundaries

The coalition of former President Joseph Kabila has just met in Kinshasa. And while current president Felix Tshisekedi has been consulting since the beginning of last week to try to find a new majority, the FCC says it is ready to continue the dialogue and power-sharing agreement, but only for certain conditions.

as reported from Kinshasa, Pascal Mulegwa

First of all, Joseph Kabila’s political family rejects all allegations that make him responsible for “a suspected blockade of the country”. And through the voice of the platform’s coordinator, Néhémie Mwilanya, the lieutenants of the former head of state made it clear that “the FCC, in coalition with Cach, the political family of the head of state, carries to the knowledge of public opinion that the latter has not formally informed its partner on its intentions, not even on the initiative of ongoing consultations, much less on the fate of the coalition agreement. “

And the position towards consultations is clear: “The FCC is still open to dialogue with the head of state, but rather within the framework of the structures and mechanisms provided for in the coalition agreement. ”

Pro-Kabila says it refuses poaching from its members: “The FCC cannot support any approach that tends to re-establish the parliamentary majority, in full legislators, in the face of corruption by elected representatives of a partner …”

Regarding the repeated threat from the President’s entourage of the dissolution of the National Assembly, the FCC reminded the President that this action could not be the result of his sole initiative, in the absence of a persistent crisis between the government and the National Assembly. According to the FCC, the alternative to this approach is to organize early general elections at all levels, including the presidential election.
