The first part of Ali Bongo’s speech to parliamentarians, politics. The Gabonese President expressed his satisfaction after the amendment of the Constitution at the end of 2020. The amendments concerned in particular “the regulations in the event of a temporary or permanent impediment to the President of the Republic and the vacancy of power”, a- Yes, when Ali Bongo suffered a stroke on 24 October 2018, a hot controversy arose in the country over these regulations that went before the two chambers of parliament. “Some points have been clarified, limited, clearly stated by the legislator so that they are not subject to multiple interpretations or disputes.”

The Gabonese president has since welcomed the elections in Gabon in June last year as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

At the social level, he congratulated himself for making the decision to limit Gabon to countering the spread of Covid-19 despite popular protest. “In the face of this terrible Covid-19 pandemic, I acted in my soul and in my conscience, in the constant problem of protecting my countrymen and if I had to do it again, I will do it again, without hesitation,” he insisted. Finally, on the economic front, he insisted on accelerating Gabon’s economic transformation.

The speech received a standing ovation. On social networks, supporters of Ali Bongo are happy with their leader.

In an initial reaction during a press conference, opponent Alexandre Barro Chambrier condemns the “emptiness” of the speech: “We must be clear that Ali Bongo has nothing more to offer the Gabonese people. It is high time to turn the page.”
