Hanifa Ali Oumar is married at 14 years old, now in her thirties, the director wants to condemn violence against women
“What I experienced as a child, my younger daughters should not experience the same thing. And for that, I chose the camera, as a weapon to fight inequality against women. Before us, there were elders, female leaders who sacrificed themselves, who gave of themselves so that things could change. It is up to me now, this generation to continue with the same momentum to be able to reach the goal ”.
Hanifa was originally a parliamentary administrator. The cinematographic technology, she acquires it alone thanks to online courses … But the biggest challenge for this princess in the province of Batha is to establish herself as a director in a conservative family.
“Being in Chad and making a film … It’s very complicated, because everything that is culture and especially film is interpreted very poorly, especially when it’s a woman who stands out. Many people say that it is ducharabia, that this is an initiative without a tail or a head … People do not understand why I chose the camera ”.
A camera she will now point to early marriage in. A law bans the marriage of minors in Chad, but for many young girls, she says, are still married before 18.
