Somalia Pledges Dedication to Revamping Agriculture at CAADP Summit

Mogadishu (AX) – You won’t believe who made quite the splash at the big CAADP shindig in Kampala, Uganda! Somalia’s very own, Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, popped over to check out the Extraordinary Summit on Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme. Now, this pow-wow ran from the 9th to the 11th of January, smack dab in 2025.

The Somali frontliners, including Permanent Secretary Hamza Haadow and Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Fardosa Mohamed Kanyare, were not there for tea and biscuits. Nah, they dove right into deep, brainy dialogues about the upcoming Ten-Year CAADP Strategy and Action Plan planned for 2026 to 2035, alongside the funky Kampala CAADP Declaration. Wonders never cease, as the whole affair was buzzing with ideas on turbocharging agriculture and ensuring that bellies across the continent stay filled.

Somalia’s team brought their ‘A-game’ and made it clear that transforming their farms, bolstering food security, and shaking hands with neighbors to solve mutual hiccups are top in their playbook. Ambassador Fiqi laid it out straight, pointing to how farming is a big player in Somalia’s economic revival. He wasn’t just talking about farming for farming’s sake, nuh-uh. Fiqi stressed that cool and sustainable policies are the name of the game to whip food insecurity and boost rural livelihoods into better shape.

The summit wrapped things up nicely with all the big wigs – Heads of State and Government, no less – giving the thumbs up to the Ten-Year CAADP Strategy and Action Plan. Somalia has shown that they are all in, pushing for solid teamwork in the neighborhood and using agriculture as a spark plug for economic oomph and balance. So, there you have it, Somalia is putting the pedal to the metal in their quest for regional solidarity and agricultural backbone!
