Puntland Blames Federal Government for Stirring Unrest in the Sanaag Region

GAROWE, Somalia (KAAB TV) – In a provocative twist, Puntland State is pointing fingers at Somalia’s central government, alleging intentional destabilization efforts in the Sanaag region.

Lately, tension flared up in Sanaag, involving clan militias. The situation improved somewhat thanks to intervention by the Isaq and Dhulbahante elders. Meanwhile, pro-Makhir activists are reportedly hosting gatherings in Mogadishu, pushing for their own regional government.

While addressing the public, Deputy President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor laid out claims that the Federal Government is funneling cash to spark disorder within Puntland’s jurisdiction.

“We’ve caught wind of the Federal Government bankrolling certain individuals to mess with Sanaag’s serenity,” Lugatoor revealed to local press.

He noted that Puntland’s security forces have been empowered to crack down on those sowing seeds of discord.

Lugatoor didn’t mince words, further suggesting that the Federal Government seeks to whip up chaos in other federal states to meddle with their sovereignty.

He urged fellow member states to be on high alert, stressing the importance of sticking to the federal constitution, which outlines how Somalia’s central and regional governments should interact.

This war of words may further weaken the already flimsy ties between Puntland and the Federal Government, a relationship marred by enduring arguments over political power and resource allocation.
