Wolves Rui Patricio signs for Roma

Wolves have confirmed the departure of Rui Patricio, who has joined Roma for an undisclosed fee.

Patricio arrived at Molineux after the club’s promotion to the Premier League 2018 and replaced John Ruddy as their number one. Since then, he has played 135 games and has barely missed a Premier League game in the last three seasons. He helped the Wanderers secure Europa League football during his virgin campaign at the club and went on to play ten in the competition.

Rui Patricio has left for Roma for an unpaid fee after three years at the club.

We wish you all the best, Rui.

But the club has now confirmed that the goalkeeper will join compatriot Jose Mourinho in Roma for the 2021/2022 season.

Wolves chief technical officer Scott Sellars said: “We all want to thank Rui for all he has done for Wolves over the last three seasons.

“He has been one of the best years in the club’s recent history, in terms of the success we have had, when he came to us when we were recently promoted and helped the club achieve two seventh places.

“He has been a fantastic servant to the club, but it is a fantastic opportunity for him to experience a new club in a new league and a good move for everyone involved. We really wish him luck in Roma. ”

Due to Patricio’s constant presence in recent years, his departure comes as a surprise. The departure of manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who has since joined Tottenham, was another shock.

Espirito Santos’ successor, Bruno Lage, will now have to hire a new starting goalkeeper. Olympiacos stopper Jose Sa is considered to be his main target with a deal that is likely to be agreed soon.

Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik – who impressed at Euro 2020 – has already joined the Greek side, apparently as a Sa replacement.

Wolves have signed this summer and used Barcelona’s dangerous financial situation to write off Francisco Trincao on loan. There should be more arrivals as well, as the club wants to improve on its 13th place last semester.
