The last batch of the Asrazeneca vaccine will end in the DRC on 11 July. The country had received one million 700 million doses thanks to the Covax initiative.
As a result of the delay and other logistical problems, 1,300,000 had been redistributed to other countries. And of the remaining 400,000 doses, less than 100,000 have been used to date. The rest will be destroyed. And questions are asked about the rest of the campaign and who has already received the first dose.
Today we need to quickly find at least 50,000 doses for people who have already received the first injection of Asrazeneca. The country once again trusts the Covax plant. According to Jean-Jacques Mbungani Mbanda, Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, discussions are underway to get these vaccines within the time frame required by the WHO. According to him, the country expects 5 million 900 thousand new doses. There is no calendar available for this new promotion yet.
These new kits will affect several families of vaccines and the government is intensifying initiatives. The country is discussing with China for some doses of the Sinovac vaccine.
Direct discussions are also underway with Pfizer. Again, the exact number of doses and the time frame are not yet known. The second possibility is through the African Union: exchanges have also been carried out to get the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The challenge then remains to avoid hiccups from the first campaign and to better organize the logistics and distribution plan for all these vaccines in order to reach at least 25% of the vaccinated population as soon as possible.
