The Director – General of Unesco, Audrey Azoulay, was in Kinshasa on Thursday 15 October. She met several personalities, including President Félix Tshisekedi. Discussions with the Congolese head of state focused mainly on the main construction sites in the education sector. Particular emphasis was placed on the large program of free basic education and the placement of young girls in school.

Director-General of Unesco took advantage of his stay to talk to the students. She chose Kabambare High School in the city of Kinshasa: “Stay in school, train others to be there. Work in school and also show solidarity with each other. Girls need to show solidarity with each other. Help each other. No one gives you gifts. Long live the Republic of Congo. Long live the girls. “
For her, the advances made in girls’ education should not be obliterated by the coronavirus pandemic. Unesco has pledged its support for the free basic education program, which has been in place since last school year. A program that focuses on several challenges: planning, building new schools, new classrooms. And Audrey Azoulay promises the involvement of Unesco: “Support the government in a massive effort, which must also be made for the quality of education beyond this massification in terms of number and access to schooling.”
In front of all her Kinshasa interlocutors, including Félix Tshisekedi, Audrey Azoulay insisted that the education of girls and, in particular, their effective return to school should be a priority.
