Newly appointed president Joan Laporta is keen to rebuild the Barça squad after the club was forced to launch a fire sale last summer in an attempt to trim their eye-watering wage costs.

The La Liga giants have already been linked with a number of household names, including Erling Haaland and Sergio Aguero, but Laporta are keen to tackle their tight backline and Mundo Deportivo report that Tottenham defender Sanchez has been identified as a possible target.

The Colombian time at Spurs has been squandered by individual mistakes since his £ 42m move from Ajax in 2017.

After forcing himself into the side despite the presence of the Belgian duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, he really failed to cement his place in start XI – largely due to a number of comic individual errors from the Colombian.

The report adds that the Portuguese tactician has no desire to keep Sanchez’s services this summer and wants to make money on the midfielder who has a contract with the club until 2024.

There is no mention of the type of fee Spurs are likely to pay for the Colombia international – something that will undoubtedly prove crucial for a possible deal given Barcelona’s current financial difficulties.

One thing is certain, however, that Barcelona desperately need to renew their backline this summer, with the aging Gerard Pique suffering from a number of injuries issuing this campaign and no longer a cornerstone of the Barça defense.

Barcelona are also said to be keen to lure outgoing Bayern Munich man David Alaba to Camp Nou, while Manchester City’s Eric Garcia was expected to join the club this summer, just so that Barcelona could move the famous goalposts to the offer they originally offered, which means is now in doubt.
