In Mali, according to the care staff, it is now older or in the risk zone that can be vaccinated since Tuesday 6 April. A little less than a week ago, on Wednesday, March 31, Malia’s healthcare campaign began by vaccinating the first, then it was medical staff who could benefit from the first doses.
From our special correspondent in Bamako, David Baché
People over the age of sixty and people with comorbidity – high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity for example – can now get their first injection for free and without time.
The vaccination campaign was launched at Point G Hospital in Bamako. Its director, Professor Ilo Bella Diall, wants to lead by example: “I did not hesitate. I was happy to be vaccinated. I encourage everyone. You need to be vaccinated. We must have a critical mass of people vaccinated to save everyone. ”
Fear of the controversy surrounding AstraZeneca
From Wednesday 31 March until Tuesday, only medical staff could be vaccinated against the coronavirus. But of the 21,000 agents involved, less than 700 came for their injection. “The negative effects observed in other countries mean that many are still dragging their feet,” says Professor Ilo Bella Diall. The controversy surrounding the AstraZeneca vaccine and its suspected side effects “means that people have not come in large numbers”, he says. Fortunately for us since the beginning of the campaign, we have not registered any adverse effects related to vaccination. ”
Four hospitals and ten health centers in the capital are now mobilized. The authorities then plan to extend the vaccinations to the rest of the country without specifying a date.
